SPC David A. Ruhren

SPC David Ruhren was born on 3 May 1984 in Virginia. He enlisted in the Virginia Army National Guard as a combat engineer on 26 October 2001. He completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri on 28 February 2003.

He was assigned to A Co, 229th Engineer Battalion located in Fredericksburg, Virginia on the date of his enlistment. He was mobilized with the 276th Engineer Battalion on 18 December 2003 for their upcoming deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom.

His decorations include the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Medal, and the 1/25 SBCT Certificate of Achievement. His posthumous decorations include the Bronze Star, he Army Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Virginia Army National Guard Legion of Merit, and the Purple Heart. He is posthumously promoted to Sergeant.

David Ruhren is survived by his mother, Sonja Ruhren.

SPC Nicholas Mason was born on 7 October 1984 in Virginia. He enlisted in the Virginia National Guard as a combat engineer in 17 November 2001. He completed Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri on 10 October 2003.

He was assigned to A Co, 229th Engineer Battalion located in Fredericksburg, Virginia on the date of his enlistment. He was mobilized with the 276th Engineer Battalion on 18 December 2003 for their upcoming deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom.
